Local Area 1

ANTIBES: Just 4 minutes by train, or a 1/2 hr walk along the beach, Antibes is well worth a visit, either for an afternoon strolling around Fort Carre, Port Vauban (France’s largest yacht marina) and the old town, or for a night out at one of the many restaurants and bars.

BIOT: Although the campsite is close to the station of Biot, the village of Biot is slightly inland but accessible by the local bus, which departs from near the station. It is famous for it’s glassworks. The seaside area of Biot is home to Antibesland (a small funfair), Marineland, the most visited (paid for) attraction in the South of France, which contains 5 separate parks: Marineland, The Little Farm, Jungle of Butterflies, Aquasplash (waterpark) & Adventure Golf. The large, popular pebbly beach has good views of Antibes and the Baie de Anges and is also home to La Siesta Casino and Niteclub. During high season, lifeguards are on duty and there are also beach cafes and watersports.CANNES: This is the place to go for designer shopping! Below the station, the streets running between the rue d’Antibes and La Croisette (the promenade) are the main shopping streets. La Croisette is the home of the famous hotels and restaurants of Cannes. There is a large sandy beach and plenty of beach restaurants and bars. The old town (Le Suquet) and port is on the far side of the Palais de Festivals (where the film festival is held). Le Suquet is full of restaurants and apparently has one of the best food markets in the region.

MENTON: Menton is the last main town before the Italian border and claims to have the mildest climate on the Riviera. Along the seafront you will find restaurants and bars where you can sit and watch the waiters dodging the manic French traffic to carry your pizza across the road to you! The Italian looking Old Town surrounds the harbour and is very good for souvenir shopping.
